A strange thing
it is to be forcibly shaped into
a man
with every cruel trial
in every testing furnace.
Stranger still
when your supposed
role model
is anything but:
childish, weak, broken;
no measure of a man.
Strangest of all
to be
man of the house
at twenty-one.
